Galleries

What do the galleries contain?

At most recent count they contain 30 images and 5 maps. The images are digital copies of 19th century lithographs. These are curated collections of visual material describing Crimea as it was, from certain vantage points, in the nineteenth century.

What role do they play in Beautiful Spaces?

The role of the galleries is not only to illustrate the look and feel of Crimean space, but to serve as a source for understanding that space more deeply: for studying the relationships between the natural and built environments, between humans and the places they inhabit, and between Crimean space as it was and Crimean space as it was interpreted by artists and other interested observers.
